The first of the knight series veil watercolor was painted in the Winter of 2002-2003. It is titled “Grail Knight Initiation.” The horse in the right foreground is being prepared to carry a Knight. When a rider came upon a horse with a turtle dove carved into the saddle, that rider knew the horse belonged to a Grail Knight. The turtle dove is a symbol of the Christ or Sun Being.
The veiled figure in the upper left holding a Rose and surrounded by birds, is the feminine symbol of the Sophia, the Wisdom of God. She holds the Rose before the central blue image of a cross made up of the turtle dove and fishes. In the foreground is a teacher or initiate of the Mysteries, one might also say Merlin.
Initiates have always been preparers of men and women to be leaders. They exist now as they did then preparing for the future of mankind. An Arthurian Knight or a Grail Knight is a soul of faith, love, and hope taking on life and its trials to purify the soul. Faith, Love, and Hope are gained through the courageous heart. The way of Courage is to face hardships and seek the truth by asking questions of the Heart to gain Wisdom. The heart is symbolized by the Rose.
